Advaita Vedanta and TMI Checklist

If you dear reader have stumbled on this page then I must tell you that I have not written this blog with you in mind. I have written this simply to have a record of Advaita Vedanta  and Buddhist meditation concepts that I have found to be useful to aid my understanding of the subject. I hope to make progress spiritually and stay emotionally balanced by thinking of these concepts as frequently as possible.

So if you cannot make head or tail of what is written here it is not your fault. It will be impossible for anyone to make sense of this unless they have read the books and watched the videos that I have done. So give this page a go by and please do explore this blog for other articles that will interest you.

So here goes:

Advaita Vedanta concepts:

  1.  BMI is not the self
    a) subject – object
    b)  changing – unchanging
    c) One – many
  2. I am Brahman
  3. I am Sat-Chit-Ananda – Infinite Being (TTA) and Infinite Consciousness.
  4. The Universe is a patch in my consciousness – Limitless Chit shining forth as the Universe
  5. Ananda – Not limited by
    a) Space – Omnipresent
    b) Time – Eternal
    c) Object – Nondual
  6. Point (5) above implies Tat Tvam Asi.
  7. We  seek pleasure from the world in the same way as a dog with a bone and blood
  8. Immortal
  9. Not cut off
  10. Water (Consciousness)  immanent and transcendent to wave (Universe)
    a) Water exists apart from the wave
    b) Wave does not exist apart from water
    c) Points (3) to (5) above
  11. I AM – Sky and clouds
  12. Body – Mind not worth being regarded as me or mine
  13. Trust in God and your Prarabdha karma – Railway coach. You are going where it is in your best interest to go
  14. So if you have to  think at all think of Vedanta – else be mindful. Keep all other thoughts to a minimum.
  15. Brahma Satyam, Jagat Mithya. You are one with Brahman

TMI Checklist

  1. Intention
    a) Engage with the breath
    b) PA
    c) Aha Moment
  2. Relax – beware of ambitious expectations – having just one moment of clarity in the entire session is good enough
  3. Enjoy – Look for the joy actively in each action – see point (11)
  4. Let it come, let it be and let it go
  5. Observe without reacting or judgment
  6. Alternating attention is ok
  7. Awareness of breath in the background is ok
  8. Separate intention – In breath and Out breath
  9. Hold intentions gently
  10. Don’t follow the breath as it goes in and out. Rather observe the sensations at the tip of the nostrils
  11. Focus on doing; not on looking for mistakes and beating yourself up
  12. Mind not me or mine
