This will help National Security

Sex education will do more than just help national security. It will also help the economy.

That is not quite accurate. A sane sex education – for large number of citizens – can transform and even revolutionize the economy and national security.

What is the rationale for this statement?

It is simple. A sane sex education will help people intellectually. I made the point in Blog 2 in this series that deceiving someone about something very basic harms their intelligence. And intelligent people are required for scientific progress in India. And scientific progress is required for the economy and national security. Both economic progress and strength in war depends upon intelligence and modern science.

As to evidence backing my claims please read Blog 2 in this series (my question answer session with Bing). And I will also point to the example of the USA. The USA has a modern sex  education policy. And they are the strongest nation in the world both economically and in terms of military might.

Now the question arises as to how we can get people (especially parents of young children) to accept what I am saying. That is a political and social challenge. I leave it to the leaders of the country to decide on this issue. We cannot stuff sex education down people’s throats in a democracy if they don’t want one. But I can present the following arguments in my favour:

  1. First is that we have taken our attitudes to sex from the British and the British themselves have changed.
  2. Second point is that going by the evidence of the fact that India has produced the Kamasutra and the temples of Khajurao we can say that openness regarding sex existed in India among some sections of society at least.
  3. Third is a criticism of Mahatma Gandhi. It is likely that India turned prudish as a result of his life and teachings. But the Mahatma wanted the whole world to try and become saints. That has never happened in Kalyug and it is safe to assume that it won’t happen in future either.
I agree that if you are trying to become a saint then it is necessary for you to abstain from sex. But is that really true for you? Each person must decide for himself. And if the answer is no then there is no reason for not educating yourself regarding sex.
  4. Fourth are some comments on Swami Vivekananda’s teachings. Swamiji said that stability of society depends upon stable marriages and that in turn depends upon people abstaining from adultery. That may very well be true. I think marriages are more stable in India than in the USA.
I have two points to make regarding this. First is that a sane sex education will actually help you be faithful to your spouse. The second is that I will be happy if this is taken as an aristocratic ideal not meant for the rank and file. In the end people should have the freedom to decide for themselves.
