I mentioned in my earlier blog that people are mocking me and gloating over my misfortunes. My being single, a dependent and not having a career or social life. Being mocked is not pleasant. It hurts. The natural desire is to hit back. Link to the earlier blog is below:
So I thought I would do some gloating myself through this blog. My life has definitely not been misused although my mockers may be misusing theirs. The benefits of my having read philosophy and gone my own way are more substantial than that of obedience and being respected and conventional. The following are the benefits of my having chosen the path I did in the early 1990s:
- I am sane. From having an unsound mind I now have some degree of wisdom.
- I am safe. Some people tried to drive me to suicide during some stretches of my life. They have been dealt with.
- I have had a full measure of vengeance. I cannot go into details as it involves sensitive and confidential information.
- I have not gone through a divorce or fathered children I would have been unable to support. Both were possibilities had I got married when I had an unsound mind.
- I was of use to the Universe. Again I cannot go into details.
- I have been a catalyst for change in society in ways that I think are constructive. Again no details.
- I have not been hanged and am not in jail for serious crimes. Both were possibilities.
- I can look forward to enjoying the benefits of good karma after my death. I believe in heaven, hell and rebirth. Quoting from the Bible:
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
As against this the disadvantages of being mocked and ridiculed and ostracised are minor in comparison.
Us philosophers are an adventurous lot who don’t hide from trouble. Some of us anyway. It is best not to antagonise us. Read The Story of Philosophy by Will Durant for details. Especially the chapter on Voltaire.
Here’s a quote from the chapter that I hope to live upto. I can only hope:
When I am attacked I fight like the devil; I yield to no one; but at bottom I am a good devil and I end by laughing.
